Dowell Chiropractic
About Dr. Steven Dowell
Originally from the Seattle–Tacoma area, I discovered my passion for chiropractic after sustaining injuries while playing high school sports. Experiencing firsthand how effective chiropractic care can be in restoring function and improving performance led me to pursue this profession. That path took me to Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose, California, where I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. During my time there, I was honored to be named in Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.
Athletics have always been a major part of my life. I was a collegiate rower and continue to challenge myself through weightlifting and running — including completing four marathons. My background in competitive sports has shaped my approach to care and deepened my commitment to helping others live and perform at their best.
After chiropractic school, I began my career in the Washington, D.C. metro area, where I opened my first practice and gained valuable experience caring for a diverse, high-demand patient population. After getting married, I moved to Christiansburg to build a life closer to family - and this community has felt like home from day one.
Over the past 15 years in Christiansburg, Virginia, I have had the privilege of working with patients of all ages and activity levels — from weekend warriors to top-tier competitors. My clinical experience includes treating professional and amateur athletes across various sports, including NFL players as well as Ironman and Olympic triathletes. I was also voted Best Bedside Manner in the NRV by Roanoke Magazine, a recognition I value deeply as patient comfort and trust are central to my practice philosophy.
Outside the clinic, my greatest joy is my family. My wife and I are proud parents of two wonderful children, one of whom is autistic — a part of our life experience that continually reinforces my empathy, patience, and advocacy for individualized care.
Every day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to help my community move better, feel better, and get back to the things they love.
